The description is in the title of this business set up by Julie Willis. With the consequence of losing her job due to the impact of lockdowns during the pandemic, Julie decided to try and start her own business in the same building that she had worked as an assistant manager for a charity shop for the previous 9 years.
With an avid interest in art, and a desire to champion local artists across Weston-super-Mare, Julie was keen to create a venue for them to exhibit and sell their products and offer locals an assortment of gifts at competitive prices. Julie accessed help from NSEA who gave her advice and support in setting up her business and with the financial support of friends she was able to open C & J’s Little Shop of All Sorts in Meadow Street, adding to the rejuvenation of this area.
Julie stocks a wide range of products for all budgets and many other artists are looking at the shop as a venue to sell their products on a commission basis, so stock is always changing. Julie has also created a zodiac and astrological birthday range with watercolour cards depicting zodiac flowers which team nicely with the needlefelt flowers and animals that are also available.
Setting up a business during lockdown was always going to be a challenge, but with the help of her son to carry out the work, Julie was able to open and has attracted some great positive feedback from customers.
“With setting up my business during the most uncertain times, some people have said ‘how brave’ but in my view it’s never too late to try, and hard work and imagination will in my opinion reap rewards, and in the end it just takes time to establish. The advice and support I have received from NSEA has been key to giving me the confidence to getting my business off the ground and ambition to increase the range of products going forward”.Julie Willis
