UPDATE – 16.10.12: Find out who won the 2012 Award here.
Local businesses who would like to publicise their success and achievements can now enter this year’s Siân Lloyd-Jones Business Award, a scheme run annually by North Somerset Enterprise Agency and sponsored by North Somerset Council, to celebrate business talent in the local area.
The award scheme is open to all businesses based in North Somerset who have been trading for between two and five years at the time of application and businesses of any size are invited to take part.
Entries will be judged on a range of criteria including financial performance, marketing strategy, innovation, use of information technology, environmental impact, job creation and training and development of staff.
The award will be presented at the prestigious North Somerset Business Club Annual Charity Ball, which last year raised £5,500 for local charities and community projects. This year’s ball, which is open to all, takes place at The Winter Gardens on Saturday 13th October 2012. The winner and runners up will each receive an award and benefit from publicity.
North Somerset Enterprise Agency has run the award annually since 2000 in memory of their former colleague and friend Siân Lloyd-Jones. Siân worked hard to support local businesses in her role as Client Services Co-ordinator before a brain haemorrhage cut short her life at the age of 32.
The 2011 winner of the Siân Lloyd-Jones Business Award was Weston-super-Mare’s Lambtrad Ltd which owns three McDonalds fast food restaurants in Weston-super-Mare, Worle and Portishead. Runners up were Debbie Fortune Estate Agents of Wrington and Weston-super-Mare’s Insight Data.
Angela Hicks, Chief Executive of North Somerset Enterprise Agency says the award offers a real opportunity for local businesses to put themselves on the map.
“In the last twelve months we have helped some 116 new businesses to start up and many more to grow. Despite the gloom and doom in the wider economy there are some real business success stories to be celebrated here in North Somerset.
“We, and our friends at North Somerset Council who generously support the awards, are hoping that we can look forward to receiving many business entries telling us about the individual progress local businesses are making. We look forward to highlighting the winners’ achievements and helping to provide some well-earned recognition for their hard work and success.”
